“Earle Meets World”: Inside the Lives of Influencers

Influencer Alix Earle’s new Netflix reality TV show “Earle Meets World” reveals her life beyond her video presence on TikTok, showcasing everything from family dynamics, and her dating life to personal issues. Daily life on social media is glamorized more often than not—at times, even fake. Having popular creators openly show their more vulnerable side of their lives to the public humanizes their presence, illustrating them as real people rather than just as a username.
Alix's rise to fame stemmed from her viral "get ready with me" videos while she was a senior at the University of Miami in 2022. Her iconic line, “is this too much for a little bar in New Jersey?” in a video before going out to the bar, reached millions of users.
Alix caught the attention of many Gen Z users transitioning in and out of college. Her life felt relatable and fun, which in turn did wonders for her reality TV show. “Earle Meets World” represents her in that same party-loving, carefree light while still showcasing Alix’s strong work ethic.
Aside from TikTok, Alix introduced a whole new side to her brand by participating in “Dancing with the Stars,” a popular show where professional dancers perform alongside celebrities and influencers. With her partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy on season 34, Alix proved that her talents expand far past just content creating. Her hard work in securing a platform translated into her hard work in dancing with professionals. She challenged many talented dancers, and established herself as a promising contestant. “Dancing With the Stars” set Alix up for success within reality TV—leading to her deal with Netflix.
“Earle Meets World” peers into Alix’s life behind the screen, mainly highlighting her family’s dynamic. Alix not only has to balance her online presence with reality, but she also must manage her time between her divorced parents’ sides of the family alongside her sister Ashtin, who is also a popular influencer, and their step-siblings. “Earle Meets World” displays how Alix and Ashtin are able to work together professionally while prioritizing their personal lives. "Earle Meets World" is a break from how the Earle sisters typically appear on their social media platforms, as it provides a glimpse into who they really are as people. Alix is more similar to her fans than some may have thought.
“Earle Meets World” also navigates Alix’s public breakup with NFL football player Braxton Berrios, learning how to work—and not work—with her friends and family, social and personal lifestyle changes after graduating college, and even health concerns rooted in her family. Alix wanted to show up as the most authentic version of herself for the show by not hiding when things weren’t picture perfect. Instead, she shows that influencers experience everyday hardships, and that she is no different from her fans.
The layers of Alix’s life illustrate the star’s personality, duality, and public image, both in a professional and personal light. Creating a lasting fanbase is not all about perceived popularity and what is believed to be “trending.” It’s truly the human being behind all of their work, content, and passion that puts the popularity in the username.
Influencers today put their reputation on the line by publicizing their personal lives. Creators receive backlash every day they interact with the media, sometimes even from their own fanbases. Alix’s rocky history with popular podcaster Alex Cooper, founder of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, hit TikTok this past year, with audiences catching their perceived friendship in the downtrends. People were forced to side between the two, shifting a negative perspective on Alix’s image as a whole and making her fans question and doubt her genuineness. “Earle Meets World” addressed this controversy, and it proved what many people in today’s society have forgotten: Rumors spread like wildfire. Assumptions about the lives and personalities of creators have become a major issue, making personal issues become societal ones.
With the release of “Earle Meets World,” Alix lets viewers into the truth of her life behind the “perceived” reality. She takes on the world of consumers in the media head-on. Perceiving a famous influencer solely through a screen removes the human aspect of in-person communication. The show lets viewers see the real Alix, without filters, and her fans are thankful.
