On April 19, the Annietober 365 Foundation partnered with Spoke Fitness Studio in Fayetteville, New York for their second-annual Cycle for Survival, a cycling event in memory of Annie Blair Eisner, a Syracuse University student who died from Leukemia in August 2023. All proceeds went to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center research labs.
“Annie was [a] fervent supporter of Cycle for Survival and held her annual cookie sale to raise money and awareness for rare cancer research,” according to the Annietober 365 website.
The Annietober 365 Foundation, founded in 2024, holds events like the yearly Cycle for Survival, cookie sale fundraisers, and cheek swabbing opportunities to determine bone marrow donations.
The Eisners became involved with Cycle for Survival when Annie was nine years old. Even before Annie became sick, she would bake and sell cookies to raise money for cancer research. Annie raised over $10,000, and continued baking for her doctors and nurses while she was in the hospital. Jodi, Annie’s mother, said her daughter used to say she’d “cure cancer one cookie at a time.”
“After she passed away, our friends started helping us to bake cookies,” Jodi said. “It got to be so big that we couldn’t keep doing it the way that we were.”
The Cycle for Survival venue welcomed over 30 attendees for that one time slot in a multiple-hours-long event. Cyclers occupied one fitness room for the activity, while another space held Annietober 365 merchandise. One table had bracelets, stickers, Good Molecules skincare products, and swabs to test for viable bone marrow. Another table was lined with Annie’s triple chocolate chip cookies, water and energy drinks. SU’s Hill Communications’ Annietober team was also on site to help plan the day’s activities and film content for the Instagram and TikTok accounts.
“[The team] is really amazing, we do swab drives, we do events like this,” said Katie Ford, an SU student and a Hill Communications Account Associate on the Annietober 365 team. “It’s really awesome just to see how many people we can get registered into this foundation and to help save lives.”
Between the outpouring support from the sisters of Sigma Delta Tau Sorority, of which Annie was a member, the Eisner’s dedication and help from the members of HillComm, it was evident how much Annie was loved by her communities and how strongly her legacy lives on.
“Annie celebrated her birthday every day of October, she was out of her mind,” Andrew said. “So, I like to say she had 630 birthdays in her life.”
