Fantasy Edition Explanation
by Catherine McCarthy and
Sabrina MacArthur:
Fetch Fantasy explores unabashed confidence, creativity, and escapism. It is a play on becoming your dream self, bringing your wildest dreams to life, and creating a whimsical, expressive, and imaginative stage for play and dress-up. Fantasy becomes a playground for creativity and performance, whimsy and desire, and where experimentation with self is embraced and celebrated.

Frosted Fae reimagines winter as an enchanted, fantastical realm. Set against the brutal winter snow, the shoot experiments with the myth of fairies, utilizing softness and glamour to create a winter wonderland. It embraces the magic of play, reminding us of the wonder and curiosity of childhood imagination during cold winter months. Through pastel makeup with snowy accents, dreamy and whimsical clothing, and perfect pastel winter tones, glacial glamour appears. The winter becomes a magical space where imagination takes precedence over reality.

Frosted Fae Concept Explanation:
Dollhouse Concept Explanation:
Dollhouse is a visual exploration of the transition from adolescence to adulthood, where performance and hyperfemininity become a spectacle. Drawing on doll imagery and a hyper-constructed setting, the shoot critiques the modern culture of hyper-visibility that young women face. Individuals are styled, arranged primly and properly, and are obsercved through the omnipresent viewer. Using exaggerated makeup, sheer dresses, and a stylized toy-like setting, the shoot captures a quiet tension rooted in control, visibility, and performance.

Sports Couture Concept Explanation:
Sports Couture is an exploration of the idea of contrast. Sports are inherently disciplined, focused on skill, competition, and rule, but have an essential element of performance. By utilizing the tennis court as a space for self-expression and juxtaposing the structure of sports with stylized fashion, we transform a space of control into an opportunity for freedom and imagination, demonstrating that serious spaces can still be areas for fun, creativity, and self-realization.
- Catherine McCarthy & Sabrina MacArthur
Northern Cowgirls Concept Explanation:
Northern Cowgirls celebrates the confidence and freedom of adulthood. The bar becomes a stage, where playful rebellion, femininity, and maturity coexist. The dim lighting, western aesthetic, and rugged-yet-glamourous styling create a moody, cinematic aesthetic, evoking a world defined by power, confidence, and presence. The shoot represents a space where adulthood can be explored with full agency, allowing sensuality and self-assured expression to exist without risk or judgment.

Notes on Styling by Fantasy Lead Stylist Rezi Ubogu:
A lot of the styling this semester came through a very hands-on process. Although I run Releigh Freya, much of what we used came from my personal archive and closet. These shoots required a high level of specificity and detail, so I often arrived at fittings with moving bags full of pieces and built looks directly on set alongside Catherine and the models. That real-time collaboration shaped the final direction of each shoot.
For Frosted Fae, I drew inspiration from Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings and realistic frostbitten detailing, using cool tones like blues and purples throughout both the wardrobe and makeup. Huge thanks to Dani Freedman and Pilar Rivas for their incredible work and openness to collaborating throughout the process.
For Sports Couture, I referenced Challengers and early 2000s African American streetwear, pairing jerseys and denim with feminine silhouettes like skirts to create contrast within the styling. For Dollhouse, we used vintage Victoria's Secret babydoll dresses similar to those seen in Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour promo to ground the concept in something intentionally otherworldly.
Northern Cowgirl pulled inspiration from Coyote Ugly, mixing Y2K clubwear with Harley-Davidson and Western influences to create something raw, nostalgic, and intentionally imperfect. Overall, each shoot focused on building a distinct visual world through fashion. I’m incredibly proud of how everything came together for Fetch Fantasy and how each team helped bring these concepts to life.
